The weekend is here and why not get it started with a Trip Around Saturn? Trip Around Saturn is Little Stranger’s groovy new album released by Ineffable Records. Little Stranger mixes hip hop, electronic, and reggae music and the 12 track album has us dancing on our feet! Trip Around Saturn highlights Little Stranger’s funky beats, lyrical flow, and laid-back vibe.

A year ago today we published our first article. We are so grateful to Suckarie for taking the time to conduct an interview with us. Our mission continues to focus on spreading the word about reggae music and the incredible global reggae artists, who put their whole heart and soul into making the music we love. Honesty as an artist is everything. It draws us in as music fans. It let’s us feel an artist’s emotions. The talented singer singer-songwriter Michael Sky teamed up with Iya Terra’s Nathan Aurora in a new single called Cheater. Dailyreggae.com caught up with Michael to learn about his collab with Nathan. Cheater has an infectious reggae riddim and an irie guitar hook. Sky and Aurora complement each other’s vocals and we’d love to hear more collaboration between the musicians.

In their seventh full-length release, the reggae-rock heavy hitters of Passafire show off their musical and songwriting expertise with songs that pull influence from a multitude of genres while still having the rhythms and vibes that fans of reggae music crave. The band has long been known for its eclectic blend of reggae and progressive rock, and it's wonderful to see a group that continually strives to grow as musicians and put out their best in both their recordings and live shows. They share the work ethic of other successful artists in the reggae community, producing and mixing most of their own music in addition to the music of other musicians in the scene (for more on this check out Passafarm Recording Studio). The band's creativity is highlighted in Strata, and they are not afraid to take a step off the beaten path with songs stretching from reggae to metal, and with song lengths varying between 3:09 and 7:41 minutes.

Matt Irie Band describes its sound as “island infused gritty blues” and we cannot agree more with that description. The band’s new single, Coastal, highlights the bands’ reggae-rock vibe and brings a fresh sound to the reggae scene. Turn this track up and you’ll feel the rocking guitars, reggae riddim, a cool drum pattern, and Matt’s cool vocals.

We first started following Eureka Sound when we saw them perform with Josh Heinrichs and have been huge fans ever since. A couple of months back we had the chance to meet David Yun and see the band play in Oceanside, California. When we heard the band play Brand New Day, we knew this is a song we’d be playing for years to come. In Brand New Day, Eureka Sound teams up with Kumar and they deliver such a powerful message of self-love, opening yourself up to new experiences, and appreciation for each moment in life. The musicianship of the song is beautiful.

B. Positive, a talented musician raised in Maine dropped his debut EP, Growth. We are enjoying his musicianship, powerful lyrics, and message around the importance of self-reflection and a path to growth. B. Positive was born in Kurdistan and pours his heart into every song of the five-track EP. He is a multi-instrumentalist and we are grooving to his unique reggae songs.

LawGiver the Kingson dropped an irie EP earlier this year called The Kingson from Kingston and we are feeling the vibes. Listening to the album was our first exposure to the Jamaican artist and we appreciate his incredible vocals and spirited messages. The album showcases some great features including Benks Ez Boy, Yaksta, and Half Pint.

Orange County, California-based band, Aloha Radio recently released a groovy new single called Nature, and the song is inspiring us to plan our next outdoor excursion. Aloha Radio is an indie rock band, but we can definitely hear a reggae twist! Nature is a well-produced song highlighting the band’s talented lead singer, an irie bass line, and a rocking guitar solo. The song was produced by Danny Kalb and AlohaAlex.

The eleventh track on Demarco’s new album, Melody, is titled Dance My Stress Away and the title of the song featuring Stephen Marley perfectly captures how this album makes us feel. Melody is an incredible reggae and dancehall album featuring heavy hitters like Sean Paul, Collie Buddz, Stephen Marley, and Shaggy.

The Black Seeds recently released their second single supporting the New Zealand band’s upcoming seventh studio album via Easy Star Records. The song is called Let the Sunshine Through and we love the song’s unique reggae groove and positive message. The Black Seeds’ lead singer and songwriter, Barnaby Weir described the single as a “bittersweet love song” but it’s definitely bringing us inner peace as we listen.

Reggae and punk rock music have long been intertwined. Both cultures embody a DIY attitude and a rejection of social norms that divide and oppress, and though the exact expression of this rebel mentality and promotion of a more equal and inclusive community differ between the two, the common ethos they share has led to amazing music combining the genres for decades. For many reggae fans their initial introduction to the genre came through punk; whether it be from classic punkers like The Clash, third wave ska bands like Reel Big Fish and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, or current artists blending reggae and punk such as Slightly Stoopid. Such a musical journey is shared by this reviewer as well, with my personal introduction to reggae starting with the punk band NOFX, which led me to bands like Sublime and The Expendables, further leading to Rebelution, and from there the whole genre opened up before me. I am far from alone in this experience, one which I especially share with my fellow West Coast Americans.

Tommie Tei has released a single reflecting on the past called Those Days. The song’s beat was made by Dwayne Euter and is called the Golden Days Riddim. The Jamaican-born artist recorded the song in the Cayman Islands at Euter Recording Studio. We love the irie riddim and Tommie’s passionate vocals that bring us back to memories of earlier days.

Miami-based reggae band, Locos Por Juana, recently released a Spanish version of the classic Stick Figure song, World on Fire. The single titled Mundo en Llamas brings a new flair and energy to one of our favorite Stick Figure songs, and it’s really cool to listen to one of our favorites in Spanish.

Joey Calderaio is back with another grooving single called Runaway Lover. If you’ve ever been chasing a significant other then you’ll totally be able to relate to this song!
