Soulwise continues putting thoughtful new reggae into motion

Daily Reggae spoke with Soulwise bassist, Adrian Jerome DeMar to learn about the band’s new music, including a new single, “Higher Feeling”, and an upcoming performance at Cali Roots!

We are pumped to hear that Soulwise is playing at Cali Roots this year. What a huge show! What’s the preparation like for that big of show?

It’s been fun! We picked our songs that we think go the hardest. It’s a power setlist for sure.

The band’s single, “Nice and Slow” is a vibe! Tell us about that song’s creation. How did it come together?

We’ve always said we wanted to do a song with our good friend, Shawn Yanez, who has been playing shows with us since we started as a band in Santa Cruz a long time ago. So, it was about time we released a song together! Go check out his music when you get chance. Support local reggae :)

Where is the band based these days, and can we expect more live shows in 2023? 

Soulwise is based in Santa Cruz, CA. We have two members currently living outside California. Sean Eichhorn, our lead singer and guitarist, lives on Maui in Hawaii writing new songs in paradise. I’m living in Portland, Oregon. We have a few more shows on our calendar and are looking forward to announcing even more.

What new music is Soulwise listening to? Will the band potentially play a new tune or two at Cali Roots?!

We have a new single called “Higher Feeling” coming out May 23rd and we will be playing it live for the first time at Cali Roots! 

What artists is the band grooving to these days? Are there any bands you’d love to collaborate with? 

Grooving to some new Stick Figure, Hirie, and our good friend Aaron Borowitz from Thrive has released some new tunes; just to name a few. We have collaborated with Aaron in the past and we would love to collaborate with the other artists mentioned. The Movement and The Expendables would also be fun and maybe one with our girl Anuhea!
