Daily Reggae caught up with Dukes Of Roots to learn about the band’s inspiring roots reggae music, song writing process, and new album in the works.

Feel The Love” is an absolutely gorgeous song! Tell us about the track’s inspiration and the message that you want people to hear.

"Feel The Love" was inspired when the band was together in Jamaica while filming a music video. The words and music come easy when creating at the birthplace of Reggae music because the people are so kind and the weather and landscape is beautiful. We want the listeners to enjoy every day and try not to let their problems consume them.

We are thrilled the band’s debut album will soon be released! How did you approach song writing in the album?

Our approach for song writing was to collaborate as a band optimizing each person's experience and talent. We decided the music is the king and we are all just servants.

Does the music or words usually come first?

The music usually came first so the lyrics can be shaped around the sound.

Can you share a fun example of how a song came together?

In the song “Feel The Love” we had the music complete but then we were all together at Mikey Bennet's house for dinner and we all went around the table saying something that makes us happy when feeling blue.

The power of reggae is felt around the world. The music is so healing.

What are some of the topics that Dukes of Roots chose to shine light on in the album?

We cover love, social justice, overcoming personal challenges and inspirational messages to lift your spirits.

Tell us about some of the artists that you worked with on the album! What was it like working with Michael "Mikey" Bennett and Mermans Mosengo.

Mikey is a legend and has so much depth as a musician and songwriter. We were blessed to have him coach Mermans in the studio when we recorded “Feel The Love”. He is an amazing human being and a joy to be with.

Our lead singer Mermans exudes talent. He plays just about every instrument. His vocals are unique and on point. There is a reason he has been a professional musician all his life and has many fans across the globe.

We also worked with Darius Rucker who is well known as a solo country artist and rock artist with Hootie & The Blowfish. Darius was very easy to work with and excited to be featured on our upcoming release "John Punch". His voice is powerful.

Tarrus Riley is featured on our first release "Pressure Drop". Tarrus has an incredible ability to improvise and add energy to music. Dean Frazier added horns to three of our songs and coached Tarruus at the studio when recording the vocals to "Pressure Drop". Dean is a legend but moreover very humble and kind.

We cannot wait to dive into your full album! Can we also expect the band to have an upcoming tour to showcase the new music?

Yes, we rehearsed in Jamaica last month and will rehearse in Miami in late May. We expect to go on the road very soon.
