You may or may not have heard the name yet, but chances are if you’re into the American reggae genre of music, you will! Since mid-2021, Michael Sky has been busy recording and releasing track after track, gaining huge traction with reggae-lovers everywhere.

After many successful single drops, Sky has put together his first full length, self-titled album for the world to enjoy featuring many great artists you know very well!

I always love seeing fresh new artists break through the walls and come out swinging hard. This guy is making waves immediately! Every song on this album has massive sound, immersive melodies and the production value is undeniable. There is an obvious personal element to each of the seven tracks on the album, yet they’re all very relatable in many instances.

The album opens up with “Get Right”, an upbeat and vivacious tune featuring the San Antonio-based Kaya Kotura. These two were meant to make music together! Their verses flow seamlessly with each other to tell a tale of what seems to be a forbidden or logistically impossible relationship, fueled by a desire that cannot be ignored.

Just ahead in the tracklist and you'll find a very love-driven tune, “Cheater”, defining what it’s like to make mistakes you never want to make again. This horn-laden track features the amazingly talented Nathan Aurora of Iya Terra, with a smooth, lyrically packed verse to round off an already polished tune.

The crown jewel of the album for me has to be “No Need” featuring Greg Shields of Kash’d Out. The song is jam-packed with positivity and words to live by. Too many people have grown accustomed to voicing negative opinions on everything they see, and social media doesn’t help much. Sky and Shields deliver a message of treating others with kindness and respect, no need to be ugly to anybody in this lifetime!

Michael Sky writes and records from the comfort of his home while friend and producer, Milo Didactah, puts the final touches on everything (and does one hell of a job) before sending it out to the masses. I asked Sky about his future aspirations on this musical journey, to which he replied, “I’d really like to open for a few other bands on the road and see what it’s like! My biggest goal is to look out in the crowd and see people singing my songs. It’s a dream more than a goal I guess you could say…” It always helps to have a great source of inspiration, he gets his from his father and grandfather (and I’m sure they are as proud as can be!).

Sky is hitting all the bases to leave his mark in the music industry and I can’t help but think about all the shows his name will surely be a part of in the near future. Let’s help him realize his dream and spread the word about this wonderfully produced debut album today!
