Vana Liya’s rise as a musician in the reggae scene is inspiring to watch as are her passionate performances! She will play at Cali Roots on Sunday, May 29th and Dailyreggae.com caught up with the singer-songwriter to learn more about her musical journey.

In a short matter of time you've gone from posting covers online to performing with some of the biggest names in reggae! How does it feel to be performing on the Cali Roots stage this year?

It definitely doesn’t feel like real life - I feel like I am constantly in a dream. Every time I see my name on the poster, it’s a “pinch me” moment. I’m so grateful to be included and have the opportunity to share the stage with such legends.

Do you and the band have a pre-show ritual before hitting the stage?

We don’t really have a ritual all together, but we individually give each other hugs and a “break a leg” type phrase when we’re about to hit the stage.

What other artists are you most excited to see perform at this year's Cali Roots?

I’d say Sean Paul and Beenie Man - I had a rep at school for my Sean Paul obsession lol. It’s a huge deal for me to be on the lineup amongst them for my family too. That’s the type of music we’d play at all our family get-togethers so it’s full circle to even get to witness them play.

Of the songs on your awesome new album "Little Kahuna", which song(s) have been getting the best response from the crowd at your live shows?

Round n Round” has been a really great, interactive song. It’s awesome because before I even get to the chorus I see people putting their hands up making the “round and round motion” anticipating the drop.

I never thought I would be at the point where the audience would even know the words to a song of mine so the fact that they’re also excited is a dream come true for me and I’m forever grateful.

Gold by Vana Liya is the Daily Reggae Song of the Day.
