Slightly Stoopid’s “Summertime 2023” Tour was one of my all time favorite concerts

Slightly Stoopid’s “Summertime 2023” Tour was one of my all time favorite concerts. I’ve been fortunate to see a lot of live music over the yeas, and I was amazed by the musicianship, energy and sense of community that I felt at the band’s show over the weekend at the FivePoint Amphitheater in Irivine, California.

Iya Terra

Iya Terra opened the evening of music and showcased their incredible reggae rock sound playing a ton of fan favorites like “Full Circle”, “Wiser Now”, and “Stars”.

I loved when The Movement’s Joshua Swain came on stage with Iya to perform the band’s song “Break Down The Walls”. Iya’s guitars were absolutely shredding! Glenn Holdaway and the horn section elevated the band’s sound and got the crowd going!

The Movement

Even though I’ve been a huge fan of The Movement for years, this was my first time catching their show live, and they were a vibe! Throughout their set Joshua Swain controlled the stage with smooth vocals and had fans grooving along with their hands above heads moving from left to right.

The Movement’s blend of reggae, rock and pop music makes them so easy to connect with and I loved the visuals they showed on the screen as well. Jason Schmidt’s bass lines shined and fans sang along to “Take Me To The Ocean”, “Habit”, “Orange Sky”, “Sounds of Summer”, and “Siren”.

Atmosphere

Atmosphere’s unique hip hop sound was on full display and I was so impressed by Slug’s performance. He truly is one of the best MCs across genres and is able to connect and empower fans in a mesmerizing way!

Ant’s beats go so hard and Atmosphere showed off it’s music catalog playing fan favorites like “Puppets”, “Pour Me Another”, “God Loves Ugly”, “Sunshine” and “The Best Day” to a now packed venue!

Atmosphere brings energy and their unique hip hop sound pumping up the audience for Slightly Stoopid.

Slightly Stoopid

It’s hard to know where to start when writing about Slightly Stoopid. The band brings this phenomenal energy to their shows and music, and the sold out house loved every minute of their set!

Some words I typed down when taking in their performance were cohesion, love, passion and musicianship. You can tell when music is something more than just a job watching some bands and Slightly Stoopid is high up on that list. They love performing, bringing reggae and reggae rock to new audiences, and also giving other talented artists a stage to shine on.

Chali 2na is a perfect example of this. The MC, especially known for his work in Jurassic 5, teamed up with Slighly Stoopid in multiple songs including one of the show’s finales and wow they were so good together!

Slightly Stoopid brings out the best of reggae rock and punk rock united!

It was rad to see how Miles and Kyle switch off on several songs where they’d pass each other the bass guitar or electric guitar and the other would play the different instrument. It shows how amazing their musicianship is by being able to plug in perfectly and shred! Speaking of bass line, Slightly Stoopid’s bass lines are amongst the best on the scene without a doubt.

Some of my favorite songs during the night were “Officer”, “Bandelero”, “2am”, “Sweet Honey”, and “Collie Man”. I also loved the catchy hooks, reggae guitar, and the horn sections’ vibe.

Slightly Stoopid brings out the best of reggae rock and punk rock united!
