New Zealand’s L.A.B. continues hot streak with L.A.B. VI!

Already dripping in platinum and gold releases, L.A.B. rolls out another collection of tracks that has already touched millions of music lovers around the world.

With a rather simple album naming system and this being their sixth studio album, L.A.B. VI is live and ready for your listening pleasure!

If you’ve ever read any of my past reviews, you know what a proponent of genre-less music I am, good music is good music.

L.A.B. exemplifies the notion of taking different music styles out of their boxes and just throwing them all in the same pot and giving it a stir.

Go ahead, take a whiff… I get hints of blues mixed with a hearty dose of rock … subtle tones of electronica paired perfectly with a pinch of funk … is that rock ‘n’ roll in there too?

L.A.B. VI has eleven tracks, adding up to forty-three and a half minutes of pure feel-good music. Hell, the opening track is called “Give Me That Feeling”! A beautifully composed song portraying the yearning for that loving feeling we all crave.

One thing I've noticed throughout the LP, is that the instruments don’t ever take the backseat. “Oh No (pt. 2)” serves up a super synthy melody that wants to take me back to the golden era of the early 90’s. It’s the type of song that bleeds nostalgia and will have your whole body moving to the rhythm without permission (and I love it).

My top track? Hands down, “Casanova”. I’d love to belt this song out to the masses, as if I were Ferris Bueller atop a parade float on my day off. While that’s not a likely scenario, the unlucky folks stopped at red lights in the cars next to me have become my (captive) audience. I enjoy the way it makes me feel; some music has the power to just change whatever is going on in your mind, effortlessly, and this one does it for me. The energy it contains is off the charts!

It’s good music. All of it.

There’s no doubt in my mind this band is destined to be legendary across the globe, and L.A.B. VI cements that statement. The album hits pleasure points in your brain you didn't know weren’t satisfied, creating new avenues of interest that didn’t previously exist. It’s that good!

L.A.B. VI was written over the course of the past two years and recorded with Lee Prebble at Wellington’s Surgery Studios in New Zealand, put out via Easy Star Records/Loop!
