Tribal Seeds latest LP Ancient Blood has fans fired up

San Diego-based reggae rockers, known to the masses as Tribal Seeds, have served up some brand new music recently, putting out their first full length studio album since 2014.

Ancient Blood is a big one; seventeen tracks chocked full of features from some heavy-hitters in the scene!

Tribal Seeds as a band has undergone some changes over the years, but after seeing them live at Cali Vibes this year, I’d say they have things smoothed out and geared back up for a successful future.

Couple that with a fresh new album to tour on just in time for the spring season and you have a solid plan ahead.

Ancient Blood is everything you could ask for as a TS fan (and lots of it). Steven Jacobo’s uniquely smoky voice, the intoxicating bounce of Tony-Ray’s keys, that oh-so-rootsy feel of everything they produce … it’s all packed inside. It’s not all the same old stuff, though. The best part of being a fan of a band over many years is seeing how they experiment with new sounds and styles to keep the vibe fresh for fans, and there’s plenty of that in the mix as well.

The list of guest features on this LP is nothing to scoff at, either. The Movement, Hector Roots Lewis, Hempress Sativa, The Elovaters, Kabaka Pyramid and many more. Every artist touching this album seems to fit like a puzzle piece to the song(s) they perform on, matching vibes on a level that accentuates the message of the tunes perfectly.

While the album retains a very “tribal” feel to it, don’t be surprised if you get the urge to move your feet to a few tracks! “Tokyo” is one that comes to mind with a very uplifting, fast-paced rhythm that’d be easy to move them hips to. Looking for the next toker-tune? Skip on down to track six for the ganja anthem, “Irie Up”.

My favorite melody in this collection, though, is a fairly roots-style offering with some of that new flavor swirled in, featuring the Grammy award winning Kabaka Pyramid with a fire verse right in the center!

If you haven’t been living under a rock, or on an island with no wi-fi, you’ve probably seen all the praise coming from social media, touting this album as one of the best Tribal Seeds has put out. I can’t say I disagree.

Ancient Blood is a total package. Big ups to the TS crew, they’re spinning gold! Here’s your call to action: Give this album a full spin, rinse and repeat. Then, go ahead and grab a ticket to a show near you (or not, I love traveling to shows!). The spring tour starts mid-April and covers a good chunk of the US, so no reason to miss out!
