We’ve been waiting for a good opportunity to say this. We are officially calling out all the radio stations around the world to give reggae another listen! There is so much amazing reggae coming out and we feel like the genre isn’t getting the attention it deserves. When you turn on The Irie’s fantastic new album, “Planet Paradise” you will be astonished by the amount of talent the Phoenix-based band brings to the table. The Irie take you on a fun trip into their world flawlessly connecting reggae, rock, and pop with a hint of hip hop influence.

Kick It” is a fun laid back song that perfectly kicks off the album and shows off The Irie’s party vibe and lead singer, George Ruiz’s on point vocals. Between George and his fellow band members, drummer, Johnny Groove, and bassist, Marcus Mapes, the group has a big time sound, especially for a three piece ensemble.

The band transitions into the love song, “Fire In My Head” featuring the late Andy Chaves of Katastro. The song is so catchy and well executed. The hook is contagious and we love the irie bass line. We wish we could have seen the band perform this one with Andy, but we are glad they had the chance to collaborate and bring this gem to life. (Editor’s note: The Irie was able to perform the song with Andy at the Marquee Theatre a week before his passing).

No Pain” is exactly the genre bending sound we were referencing at the top and appreciate about The Irie. This is the type of banger we will play at a party, or driving down the Pacific Coast Highway!

PCH” has the band teaming with Iya Terra’s Nathan Aurora. It has a funky vibe and we love the horn section. Nathan is able to put his stamp on the track making this song one of our favorites on the album.

Groove’s smooth drumming is spotlighted in “Right On Time” and it’s yet another song showcasing Ruiz’s amazing talent as a vocalist and songwriter.

“Planet Paradise” is one of the most unique albums that we have reviewed. We applaud The Irie for their creativity, and for staying true to their sound and passion. We see many trips to Planet Paradise in our future!

Fire In My Head” by The Irie and Andy J of Katastro is the Daily Reggae Song of the Day.
