On the coast of California south of San Francisco and north of Cali Roots location Monterey lies the beach town of Santa Cruz. The community has become well known for both its surf and stoner culture, both of which heavily influence the music coming out of the city. The legendary band The Expendables have been the global ambassadors for Santa Cruz's reggae/ska sound for the past couple of decades, finding a home in speakers of reggae fans around the world with their unique blend of reggae, ska, punk, and heavy Iron Maiden inspired guitar riffs. As we move into the year 2022 it is the talented and creative band Pacific Roots that is now making a name for themselves as the next Santa Cruz group to bring this brand of music to the reggae masses. The band has grown over the past few years from roots planted deep in the Northern California soil, and with their brand new album have made it known they are "Still Standing" taller than ever.

Blvk H3ro drops The Greatest with Something D’Lux and the song features a really cool reggae riddim that has us nodding our heads to the beat. In a post on his Instagram, Blvk H3ro said, “Once your able to see this regardless of ur situation just know You survived two of the Most confusing years in the history of mankind and guess what your still here an I think that deserves a round of applause. This song is for everybody that feels, that knows their the greatest. Sing it loud, make them fear.”

Derrick Scott blends reggae and gospel in his unique reggae music and we have enjoyed listening to his 2020 album, Derrick Scott’s Mission Ablaze Live. According to Maria Jackson Entertainment, in December, Scott’s song God Answers Prayer recently hit the number three spot in New York’s reggae chart and number nine in South Florida’s reggae chart.

Michael Sky and KayAyeeWhy cool it down in their new song, Lazy. Lazy has a reggae vibe with a punk twist and rocking guitar solo. Everyone deserves a lazy day, so why not throw this one on and take it easy on the couch!

Switchstance Recordings and East African Records teamed up to bring Uganda's Nilotika Cultural Ensemble and the band’s 2021 album, Nyabingi Resurrection, to life. You’ll enjoy this 12 track album, which features incredible drum and horn-led rhythms.

Jus Goodie brings incredibly uplifting vibes in the new single, At The Moment. This song has a great mix of pace and highlights Jus and Zan’s vocals and songwriting. We cannot wait to crank this jam the next time we’re heading to the beach or a fun night out.

Kyle Smith continues to make a name for himself in the reggae scene and his work ethic is hitting legendary status. Kyle recently shared on Instagram that he played 71 shows in 31 states in 2021, and he’s off to the races in 2022 with over a dozen national shows planned!

Qyor inspires the younger generation with a message of hope in his new single, Ghetto Youth. The song was released by Ineffable Records and highlights Qyor’s strong vocals. We love this song and its message that no matter where you grow up you have an opportunity to rise and chase your dreams.

One Culture and Mellodose have collaborated in the new song, Chameleon and we are feeling the song’s riddim and message. In a post on his YouTube page, Mellodose said, “This tune is about overcoming your demons & giving thanks daily.” Chameleon features a grooving bass line, gnarly guitar solo, and message of positivity.

In his latest single, Sunrayz celebrates the power of reggae music! The irie song titled Reggae Music follows up Sunrayz’s good vibes spreading singles from earlier in 2021 including Gone Too Far, Back to the Island, and Free Your Mind. When we listen to Reggae Music it brings a huge smile to our face. The song highlights the artist’s passion for reggae, his songwriting talent, and feel-good vocals. Reggae Music’s bass line and steel drum will inspire you to dance on your feet!

Inna Vision and Jah Maoli represent Hawaii while respecting cultures around the world in their new single, Far Away. We are vibing to the new song and love hearing this collaboration between two of Hawaii’s reggae legends. Far Away highlights Inna Vision’s skilled bass lines and uniquely highlights the artist’s smooth vocals over irie electronic and dub music.

Gramps Morgan has released a new holiday single, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday, and it puts a smile on our face! The song was originally released by British rockers Wizzard in the early 1970s and Gramps puts an irie reggae spin on the holiday song.

In his new single, Ups And Downs, Hector Roots Lewis sings, “Cuz you can never rise if you never yet fall down; You can never rise if you never yet fall down; It's ups and downs.” We love this message for so many reasons. If you don’t take a chance and follow your passions in life then you’ll never rise. There will certainly be days when you fall down but the rise will be all worth it! Lewis is known as a background vocalist and percussionist for Chronixx, and he shines in Ups and Downs. The Ups and Downs music video was recently released and it’s a super cool and colorful video that you have to check out!

Sharon Marley and Tuff Gong International today released a beautiful new music video for the song, Just One More Morning, celebrating Sharon’s mother, Rita Marley. The song was originally released by Rita and is the ninth track on her album, We Must Carry On. Rita Marley appears in the music video and the video was directed by Rita’s daughter, Donisha Prendergast. You will love Sharon’s take on the song, and this amazing tribute!

In 2021 we've had the pleasure of covering incredible new releases from the all stars of the reggae scene including Rebelution, SOJA, and Paula Fuga, as well as fantastic up-and-coming talent in the likes of Marcus Gad, The Late Ones, and Kyle Smith. On December 17th one of our favorite rising artists, Joey Calderaio is dropping a wonderful album titled "Moving Mountains (Deluxe)" just in time for the holidays. An accomplished musician in the Florida reggae scene, Joey quickly started growing a fanbase with the release of his 2019 EP "Moving Mountains". In the following two years, he released well-received singles, with his hard work and positivity culminating in the new "Moving Mountains (Deluxe)" album release.
